What We Do

  • Investigate abuse and neglect
  • Engage in big, system-wide change through litigation, legislation, and education of stakeholders 
  • Provide tips and tools that New Mexicans with disabilities can use to be their own best advocate
  • Refer individuals to partner organizations that might be able to help
  • Track emerging issues for future systems-wide work 
  • We select individual casework for an important and focused set of issues

What We DO NOT Do

  • Social Security applications and appeals
  • Help becoming the guardian of someone with a disability
  • Employment benefits (short-term disability, long-term disability, retirement)
  • Child custody
  • Evictions for non-payment of rent
  • Personal injury
  • Criminal defense
  • Divorce
  • Consumer law (unless it involves Assistive Technology for someone with a disability)
  • Estate planning (preparing a trust or will)
  • Expungement (destroying or sealing records of a criminal conviction)
  • Immigration
  • Medical or professional malpractice
  • Out-of-state issues
  • Bankruptcy
  • Traffic violations
  • Unemployment insurance
  • Workers compensation
