We are saddened by the passing of Ms. Heumann but celebrate the incredible life of such a great champion of disability rights. She was a brilliant and courageous leader.
On August 5, 2020, DRNM hosted a showing of the film Crimp Camp. Through the efforts of our Senior Advocate, Joan Curtiss, we were able to arrange for Ms. Heumann to join us for an hour to be interviewed, discuss her work and the work that needs to be done. This was done as part of DRNM’s ongoing recognition and celebration of the recent 30th anniversary of the ADA. Ms. Heumann was a living legend in the disability rights movement. She was prominently featured in the widely acclaimed movie Crip Camp, and she is the author of the extraordinary book Being Heumann: An Unrepentant Memoir of a Disability Rights Activist.
Her life and legacy continue to inspire us to do the work that needs to be done.
